St. Luke’s in the World

Feeding with Fellowship Sunday Suppers:  Each month, St. Luke’s opens it’s doors and offers the community a FREE delicious hot dinner! These Community Suppers are held on Sunday evenings from 5-6pm, and the menus vary throughout the year. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come and spend time in a warm and welcoming place. Come join us, just walk in. The smiles and food are always plentiful! Check the website ‘Calendar‘ for upcoming Community Supper dates and menus.

Altar Guild: Bishop Gayle Harris, on one of her visits, referred to Altar Guilds as power centers. Indeed, the sanctuary and sacristy at St. Luke’s are places of quiet energy especially felt when light illuminates the stained glass and warm colors flood these spaces. Members of the Altar Guild prepare the Lord’s table for Sunday’s Eucharist, setting out the vessels, elements of bread and wine and small linens. We vest the altar and set out the priest’s chasuble and stole in the color of the liturgical season. Candles are filled with oil. Sunday worship is certainly the focus of our Holy Church-keeping, but in the background we are making arrangements for flowers and memorials, ordering supplies and caring for our beautiful metalware and vestments. We always need extra hands to prepare our church for our two most joyous seasons, Easter and Christmas. You are always welcome to participate in this very special ministry.

Church Life: The Church Life Committee’s fosters a sense of community and inclusion within St. Luke’s by focusing on parishioner experience and engagement. Events are planned on a monthly basis and may include small community outreach projects such as filling backpacks, setting up mitten trees and filling Thanksgiving baskets as well as social events, educational opportunities and member recognition. We have great fun getting together for potlucks, adult education, pancake suppers and even a highly anticipated cookie-stroll, just in time for holiday celebrations. Visits to museums, local events and Diocese learning opportunities are also part of our constantly evolving program. Please watch our events page for details about specific offerings as they arise.

Music and Choir: St. Luke’s has a fantastic 1930 Moller pipe organ with a full pedal board. Our organist, Amy Lepak, also serves as music director leading our friendly choir. We encourage anyone who likes to sing (even if not a fantastic singer!) to come join the choir. All vocal ranges are needed and welcome! Choir practice Sundays at 9:15 am (45 minutes before Service).

Outreach and Eucharistic Ministry: We believe that we must faithfully attend the less fortunate of God’s children by giving our treasure, as well as our time and talent, in order to make a difference in our community and that of the larger world. We believe we are called to share our faith by reaching out to others. We will work to extend our outreach beyond our parish, keeping in mind Jesus’ admonition to “feed my sheep”.
